Fonts, Colors, Vibes: What’s Actually Behind a Great Logo

(Hint: it’s more than just a cute little icon)
Let’s talk logos for a second. Not just how they look — but how they feel.
Because a great logo? It’s not just something you slap on the top of your website or stick on a business card. It’s the visual starting point for your whole brand — the tiny-but-mighty foundation that sets the tone for everything else.
And no, it’s not just picking a trendy font, tossing in a flower, and calling it a day. (Although I love a good flower when it makes sense, obviously 🌸)
So like… what actually makes a good logo?
Here’s my take after working with businesses of all kinds — from wellness coaches and wedding vendors to small shops and creative entrepreneurs:
1. A Great Logo Captures a Feeling
Your logo should instantly give someone a vibe. Whether it's clean and modern, soft and calming, bold and quirky — that feeling matters more than a million details. It sets the tone before someone even reads a word.
Ask yourself:
“If someone saw my logo and nothing else, would they get the right impression?”
Because branding is all about gut feelings. A logo is the first hello.
2. It’s More Than Just a Font
Yes, I love a beautiful font. Trust me, I have a library of them I treat like precious jewels 😅 — but a logo is about more than typography.
The right font can totally make or break a logo, but it needs to be paired with the right layout, spacing, shapes, and vibe. Serif or sans-serif? All caps? Handwritten? Spaced out and airy, or bold and compact?
It’s all saying something — even before you realize it.
3. Color Choices Matter (A Lot)
Ever seen a logo that just felt off? Like, maybe the layout was fine but the colors were giving... “Oops, I made this at midnight during a Canva spiral”? 🙈
Colors aren’t just about what looks good — they help create emotional cues.
Soft neutrals = calming, grounded
Earthy tones = natural, trustworthy
Brights = playful, creative
Black and white = modern, clean, elevated
Picking the right palette helps your logo speak without words.
4. A Logo Should Be Simple — But Not Boring
The best logos are clean and easy to recognize. You should be able to print it tiny, stamp it on packaging, or post it on a billboard — and it still holds up.
BUT… simple doesn’t mean generic.
This is where custom touches come in. A small icon that means something to you. A unique twist in the font. A color combination that nobody else is using. That’s where the magic is.
5. It Has to Work Everywhere
A good logo isn’t just one pretty graphic. It should come with multiple versions:
A stacked version
A horizontal one
A submark or icon
Something that works on light AND dark backgrounds
Trust me — future you will thank past you when you’re not trying to crop a full banner into a circle profile pic. 😬
So... how do I design logos?
Here’s a quick peek at my process when I work with clients:
We talk — I ask a ton of questions about you, your brand, your audience, your personality, and what kind of vibe you want your business to give off.
I brainstorm + sketch — Fonts, color ideas, layout thoughts, and little details that could make it yours.
I send you 2-3 initial logo concepts — Usually a mix of safe options and bold ones (because you never know what will click!)
We revise together — I offer multiple rounds of edits, because the goal is to land on something you love.
You get a full brand suite — Final files in every format you’ll need, plus a mini brand guide if you want one.
TL;DR — A good logo isn’t just cute. It’s strategic. It’s you.
It should feel right, look good, and work hard.
If you’re just starting your business — or your current logo is giving you the ick every time you see it — let’s chat. I can help you create something you actually love (and love showing off). 🎉
