5 Signs Your Website Might Need a Glow-Up

(...and how I totally get it because mine took, like, 6 tries to get right)
Let’s be real — websites are hard. Especially when you’re a small business owner trying to do everything. It’s super common to launch something fast just to have something online… and then never really go back to fix it up.
If that’s where you're at, I totally get it. I’ve been there. Actually, I lived there. For a while.
When I first started Modern Petal, I made my own website because I figured, “hey, I’m a designer — I can do this!” What I didn’t realize? Designing a brand for yourself is honestly one of the hardest things ever. I went through SO many versions of my own site before it finally felt like “me.” It took testing layouts, rewriting copy, changing colors, scrapping ideas that didn’t sit right — and honestly? It made me way better at helping others do it, too.
So if you’re sitting there side-eyeing your own website… wondering if it’s time for a refresh — here’s your sign. 👀
1. It Doesn’t Match Your Vibe Anymore
Your business has probably changed since your site first went live — maybe your services evolved, maybe your audience shifted, or maybe you’ve just grown a lot and want your brand to reflect that.
If your website doesn’t feel aligned with who you are right now, that disconnect is doing more harm than good. It’s like showing up to a job interview wearing your high school gym uniform. 😬 Not the vibe.
What I do: When I work on a new site for a client, we start by digging into the feel of your brand — not just your fonts and colors, but your personality, your goals, and who you’re trying to connect with. That way the site ends up being more than just pretty — it feels aligned and intentional.
2. It’s Confusing (Even for You)
This one hurts a little, but hear me out: if it takes more than a few clicks to figure out what you do or how to book you, your visitors are already gone.
Cluttered menus, too many pages, or buried info = no one has the patience for it. Your site shouldn’t feel like a digital scavenger hunt.
What I do: I organize everything in a way that feels calm and clear. Clean menus, thoughtful flow, and pages that make people want to explore more — not back out.
3. Your Services Aren’t Clear (Or They’re Kinda Hiding)
If someone lands on your site and has to guess what you do or who it’s for… that’s a problem. It should take no more than a few seconds to understand exactly how you can help them.
Are your services listed clearly? Are they described in a way that speaks to your ideal client? Or is everything grouped under a vague “Work With Me” tab and you’re hoping people just get it?
What I do: I help you lay out your services so they’re clear, easy to digest, and strategically written — not just designer-fluff. We’ll make sure the people you want to work with see themselves right in your offerings.
4. There’s No Pricing Info (Or It’s Confusing)
This one’s tricky, but real talk: not having any pricing on your website might be holding your business back.
Now, you don’t have to list every detail or every package price — but if your visitors are left guessing whether you're in their budget, they might not even reach out. On the flip side, if your pricing is too complicated or buried 3 pages deep, same thing. Confusion = no action.
What I do: I help clients decide what makes sense for their business. Whether that’s showing starting prices, creating a PDF guide, or guiding people to a custom quote — we do what feels right for you AND makes it easier for the right people to say yes.
5. It Feels Outdated, Slow, or Not Mobile-Friendly
We all love a nostalgic moment — but your website shouldn’t be one of them. 😅If it takes forever to load, doesn’t show up right on your phone, or looks like it was made in 2012 (no offense to 2012), it’s time for a tech refresh.
People are scrolling fast — and mostly on their phones — so your website needs to show up and work flawlessly, everywhere.
What I do: I build all my websites with mobile responsiveness in mind — they look good on every screen and load fast. I also help with the not-so-glam parts like SEO basics and clean backend setup, so the site runs smooth and you don’t have to stress.
Bottom Line? Your Website Should Make You Proud
You should be excited to send people your link. You should feel like your site is working for you — showing off what you do best, even when you’re sleeping or offline. If you’re currently cringing every time someone asks “What’s your website?”, it’s time for a glow-up. No shame in that.
